Theater, Theater

So, I half-heartedly auditioned for Springfield Muni Opera this year.

A little background info, I have a love-hate relationship with Muni. They LOVE to HATE me. I auditioned from the time I was 13-21, and was cast ONCE. Then, I auditioned for "Chicago" in 2006, and once again...I wasn't cast.

So, I went to one voice lesson, and said screw it...I'll just try.

And I was cast as Mrs. Medlock in "The Secret Garden".

Craziness...I feel like I'm 14 all over again!!!!

New Stuff

So, I'm getting settled into my job. And it's fabulous. Great benefits, decent money.

And then there comes this THING...I'm beginning to miss performing. I've not been in a show since "Nuncrackers", last January...and working in a performing arts venue is TORTURE!!

I've gotta get off of my nervousness, and just audition.

Just do it.

Turning a New Creative Leaf

Ok, so for my birthday, MB bought me a really groovy Audio Studio Software...and with the $ that Georgia gave me, I upgraded microphones for the PC.

Do you know how INCREDIBLY hard it is to find a decent USB microphone for under $200?

I searched & searched online, and all of the ones were crap. So, I roll into Best Buy all pissed off - and lo & behold...they have this beauty:

Photobucket

I am sooo in love, I can hardly STAND it. I mean...I don't think that MB even gets it. While growing up, every free moment was spent wishing that I had a recording studio. Even if this is very bare-boned. But I have a decent vocal-eraser on this software. Can a Broadway-oke geek ask for anything more?

So, I've recorded a few things. What sucks is that for the past 3 weeks or so, I've had bronchitis, so I have no upper range. Just when I have these incredibly juicy songs to belt into, and not warp the mp3, since I only had a $20 Wal-Mart PC mic.

So, this is my new creative outlet. And crash...it happened.

I decided (for sure) to audition for "Children of Eden" at Springfield Theatre Centre. Sigh. I know there's no way in hell I could ever even DREAM of being Eve/Mama Noah, but I'll give it an underhanded try. What? Me underhanded? This is an awesomely retarded plan of mine, that will completely blow up in my face. What disasterous plan would that be, might you ask? Welllll...I'm going to sing the gospel song "Ain't it Good" from the musical. Which Mama Noah sings (naturally, after riding out the flood). BUT...so do the Storytellers. Which would be my 2nd choice...if I was actually brave. Alas, I am not. BUT...unlike other productions I've seen....they're only using 4-6 Storytellers. That would kick ass.

to keep up with my progress working out the kinks in the song, check me out on youtube:

Let me know what y'all think.

Returning

Talk about returning. I'm in the middle of my "lazy year", and it's been a year since I've actually written something.

Hopefully this year won't be as dull. Hum-drum. Etc.

This past year has been odd. Nothing to report...I've not done anything Diva-ish in public in over a year (at home is a different matter).

So, what have I been doing? Well, I watch a LOT of trash TV. Seriously. The damn Celebreality shows on VH-1, reruns of Melrose Place on SoapNet...tons of documentaries.

More to come later.

Have a large day!

I'm Quitting

Okay.

STC hasn't released their season yet...but I know what it is...and it sucks.

Sooo...I've been thinking. Originally my idea for moving back to Illinois was to go to MU & major in Musical Theatre.

But it's sooo politicky as of late. So I'm getting out. That's right: I said it.

"So what now, Ms. Diva?", one might ask. Since I have been doing theater for 21 years.

Opera. Yes, I said it. Opera.

I start voice lessons in the fall to whip my upper range back into shape, and I am auditioning for the chorus of the Lyric Opera of Chicago next December.

It's Diva Time!

Yo!

Ok...so I am formerly "Ms. Hep's Rantings & Ravings". But my url address I believe was about 5 million letters too long (kimitasrantingsandravings.blogspot.com) - so basically, if you didn't have me saved...well then, f*ck it.

So, welcome to my Diva's World.

This is the only place where I believe that I am truly able to be me...a complete diva, and screw what everyone thinks, basically...because it is all about me.

In my own little private fantasy world, anyway.

In real life, I have a fiance who is even MORE of a diva than I. My new coined word for male divas are "Divos". I SWEAR this was before this opera group, "Il Divo" (I'm suing Simon Cowell, BTW). As a stand-up comic, I think that it is all well and good to divo-out, but c'mon...it's my time now, buck-o!!!

Currently I'm starring as Sister Mary Hubert in "Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Musical". So it should be all about ME, right?

Nope.

Five minutes before I was going to walk out the door to film the TV commercial for the show, what do I get? "Hey, what do you think about this bit?"

Damn Divos. It's my month. Let me be fabulous!

Hepworth...out!
